Abstract
A realization of a real-time forward-adaptive vector quantizer (VQ) for speech waveform coding on the TMS32010 digital-signal processor (DSP) chip is described. Two encoding algorithms have been implemented: the full search (vector dimension K =5) and search in subcodebook determined by the index and sign of the input vector co-ordinate having maximum magnitude (K =8). The speech signal is sampled at 8 kHz, and the vector quantization rate is 1 bit/sample. The hardware and software developed resides on two cards for use with IBM PC/XT-compatible computers
