Abstract
This paper presents the design of a load balance facility with dynamic load balance policy in the Distributed MINIX operating system. It also discusses the performance improved with the load balance facilities. Process migration and remote execution are used as the basic mechanisms to achieve load balance. We also design a simple and efficient method to get the workload of a computer and a method to get process characteristics. Depending on the workload and process characteristics, the load balance facilities can decide which process to migrate and where to migrate effectively. The experiment shows that the system performance can be improved with our load balance facilities
