Abstract :
Optimal design rules are presented for a noncoherent code tracking loop in DS-SS systems. The loop studied here is the modified code tracking loop. Two criteria are considered: the mean time to loss of lock (MTLL) and the probability of error (Pe) in the data due to imperfect synchronization. The MTLL is calculated by solving Kolmogorov´s partial differential equation using the singular perturbation method. It is shown that errors in the tracking loop have a nonnegligible effect on Pe for the DPSK case. Simple design rules are obtained
