Abstract :
This contribution proposes an approach for domain engineering and application engineering, which has been developed under consideration of the characteristics of industrial automation systems. It concerns the systematic interdisciplinary modularization of the components of industrial automation systems, as well as modeling of all artifacts involved in engineering a new system. The approach has been deployed as case study in the concrete domain “Modular Production Systems”. The execution of the case-study revealed a number of topics related to the interdisciplinary modularization and to the interdisciplinary reuse, of which we think they are relevant for other domains, as well. Hence, the results of this contribution are expected to be particularly interesting for researchers and practitioners in the area of product line engineering of industrial automation systems.
