Abstract
Reliability and availability requirements for large scale distributed systems implemented in electric power units represent an important factor with impact in energy efficiency. The real time data information and online diagnostic capabilities and ability to set alarms provided by SCADA systems, ensure advanced notification of impending failure. The processing of their database and the decision support system offers better decisions that can prevent the equipment malfunction. Machine operation assistance functions, switchgear diagnosis functions (cumulative breaking current and number of operations, operating time charging time) implemented by electronic protection devices and partial discharging monitoring systems is another effective on-line predictive maintenance test for assessing the functional condition of motors and generators as well as for electrical distribution equipment.
