Abstract
Optical networks are very high speed networks. Survivability i.e. the ability of the network to handle the failures is important issue in these networks. In this paper, we have proposed one provisioning i.e. resource allocation strategy for path based survivability in optical networks. It takes into consideration the network state during resource allocation. It supports 100% failure recovery rate and thus can be used for critical applications. The main resource is wavelength upon which data is transmitted. The wavelengths are attempted according to their use. The proposed strategy tries to minimize the number of attempts required to find a free wavelength for lightpath establishment. The simulation is done using different network models. The results show that the proposed strategy is better than existing strategy in terms of number of attempts. Searching a free wavelength along the route takes time and directly affects the connection establishment time.
