Abstract
With the availability of new tools for interacting, handling and analyzing information about product state (sensor, computer, and communication technologies), the development of maintenance engineering for product life cycle (PLC) support is becoming feasible. This paper describes an information-centered approach to maintenance based on criteria of PLC optimization. Remote maintenance is considered as a distributed process incorporating remote product monitoring, computerized decision-making and online maintenance guidance. The paper presents demands of inverse manufacturing on PLC modeling, model input parameters and criteria to generate optimal maintenance actions. A supporting information infrastructure system for remote maintenance is discussed
