Abstract
This research describes a method for using electromyogram needle electrodes for the sensing of cardiac action potentials epicardially. Concentric, monopolar, and single fiber needle electrodes were used in vivo to record action potentials from the left ventricle in a swine model. Action potential duration, amplitude, Vmax, and jitter were calculated for each sample run. This research has clinical significance for probing ischemic border zones on the epicardial surface for targeting sites for therapy as well as for gaining important insights into arrhythmia mechanisms.
