Abstract :
The paper introduces a new paradigm for the development of embedded systems, called process orientation. From the analysis of the problems encountered with state of the art development methods for embedded systems, it becomes obvious that many difficulties are caused by the absence of good behavior models and the resulting intermingling of different design dimensions. It is shown that these problems can be solved by the explicit modeling of dynamic system aspects like behavior, real time and dependability constraints. This is done by means of so called activities that provide a convenient description of the global behavior of a system and that can be annotated by dynamic constraints
