Abstract :
Utility companies would like to provide power without interruption to any of their customers. The degree to which this goal is accomplished is considered. Both rules of thumb and the engineers´ experience were the keystones in designing and establishing the reliability of transmission systems. The paper presents an alternative to educated guess work. Designs and modifications of transmission systems can be evaluated by modeling the transmission systems based on the laws of probability
