  • Abstract
The cdma2000, standard for third generation mobile systems, incorporates several features to enhance the battery life of a mobile station (MS). This paper focuses on the battery life enhancements in idle mode-when the mobile station is not using a dedicated channel. Most of the battery life enhancement comes from the introduction of a new forward link common channel structure, which incorporates the forward quick paging channel (F-QPCH), the forward common control channel (F-CCCH) and the forward broadcast control channel (F-BCCH). The quick paging channel can also be used with the existing TIA/EIA-95 paging channel. This paper shows how the quick paging channel enhances battery life of the MS, without sacrificing reliability
