Abstract
This work presents an analysis of a distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) as a substitute or a complement to the classical voltage regulation and balancing techniques, highlighting each alternative characteristic, advantages and disadvantages, considering the parameters of an actual 13.8 kV distribution circuit. These studies were performed focusing on a utility company investment alternatives among the technical solutions available to mitigate, avoid or postpone expenses, in order to comply with the legal principle of a prudent and necessary investment to reach the lowest possible energy tariff.
