Abstract
The Stirling Technical Committee of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (STC/ASME) has undertaken an effort to codify a set of standards and nomenclature for use in reporting on Stirling engine performance. The standards, which were adopted at the 1988 IECEC, are presented here for consideration by the larger Stirling community. The standards are intended to provide a fair and consistent structure within which results for most types of Stirling (work-producing) engines can be reported. Groups not within the venue of the ASME are encouraged both to use these documents as a basis for similar and consistent efforts elsewhere and to offer suggestions for revision and improvements
