Abstract
The paper is concerned with the study of a DC microgrid supplied among others from biogas mini power plant and from renewable energy sources and loaded by telecommunication and data center consumers. The microgrid is operated in stand alone mode in remote places. For continuous and reliable power supply energy storage units are applied. The operation of the microgrid and the load leveling and sharing between energy storage units are discussed when the target is to extend the life time of the expensive batteries. A voltage control strategy is proposed for the super-capacitor bank. Simulation results help the selection of control parameters.
