Abstract :
A description is presented of a card for accessing information indirectly using only a bar code. An intelligent card reader is required to retrieve information regarding the cardholder. Magnetic stripe memories are sufficiently large to hold name, number, and about 50 b of reference information for signature verification. Signature verification using dynamic features has been realized with a higher accuracy than that achieved by visual inspection. It appears that a battery-powered single chip microprocessor card reader, and piezoelectric pad for recording the signature dynamics can be combined into a low cost unit. This unit could replace the present roller-printing device. The large number of these units which are required will reduce their cost
