Abstract :
The engineering education community has been very focused on learning outcomes since the introduction of the ABET EC2000 criteria. This session will take the topic of "assessment" to a different level by closely linking learning outcomes with teaching methods. For more than thirty years the faculty at Alverno College have taught and assessed student learning outcomes in the context of an ability-based curriculum that emphasizes how students are able to think and what they are able to do as a result of study within and across disciplines. Building on previous collaborative work Alverno College has performed with engineering programs, this session aims to be the start of a continuing dialogue between Alverno College and the engineering education community. The session takes advantage of the FIE 2007 conference location - Milwaukee, home of Alverno College.
