Abstract :
Reliable energy supply is closely connected with the request to have sustainable power generation. High DC voltage systems are used in telecommunication systems to support this requirement. This technical paper describes switching and protection in high DC voltage systems supplied by photovoltaic. Two concepts are presented, starting with the theoretical description followed by the analysis of test results achieved with a prototype: firstly current-limiting switching devices for 400 VDC systems, secondly hybrid switches for use in photovoltaic systems up to 1500 VDC. The summary of both concepts will allow a state of the art overview on the major aspects to be considered for reliable protection and switching of 400 VDC systems sustainably powered by photovoltaic systems.
