Title :
Uplink user bitrate adaptation for packet data transmissions in WCDMA

Abstract :
The possibility to adaptively select the user bitrate for packet transmissions in a WCDMA system, is analysed as a strategy to solve local coverage problems, such as those for mobiles at the cell border. Two basic bitrate adaptation schemes have been evaluated: one based on the estimation of BLER (block error rate) experienced by the user, the other based on the mobile output power. For both of them, bitrate changes are controlled and performed by the mobile terminal. System simulation results show an improvement of the system performance which can be seen in terms of coverage, having the same QoS, or better QoS, maintaining the same coverage area
