Abstract
The technological issues involved in advanced explosives, energetic materials, and contraband detection are addressed. To facilitate an appreciation and understanding the problem, a general overview of the chemistry and physics of common and unconventional military and commercial explosive and energetic materials is presented. A discussion is presented of the general approaches, methodologies, and limitations of explosives and energetic materials detection including various forms of radiographic imaging and analytical techniques and future trends in explosives and energetic material detection technology that may be applicable to the international air transportation industry
