The speed of the VLSI used in micro-processors,RISC processors and synchronous memory has reached as high as several hundreds of MHz using on-chip Phase Locked Loops and precise clock distribution technology. PLL technology also finds application in wireless and communication systems, disk drive electronics, mixed analog/digital chips, and instrumentation.
