Abstract :
A novel algorithm, referred to as MODE-SUMWE, is proposed to estimate direction-of arrival (DOA) of coherent signals on a uniform circular array. In the proposed algorithm, mode excitation method is first used to transform the UCA in element space into a virtual uniform linear array (VULA) in mode space, an efficient subspace-based method is then employed to estimate the DOA of coherent signals. No eigendecomposition and no overall correlation estimation of the signals are needed in the implementation. Simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of the MODE-SUMWE algorithm if compared to conventional Spatial Smoothing (MODE-SS) algorithm.
