  • Abstract
Rechargeable lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery technology has already demonstrated its exceptional capability to deliver high performance, reliability and long life in a range of demanding telecom applications. As the needs of telecom OEMs and operators evolve, Saft has focused on the development of a newer generation of Li-ion batteries. It offers interesting new possibilities with optimized benefits of compact, safe and reliable backup systems for an extended range of telecom applications. This paper describes how its high performance in standby, its good cycling capability, its high charge efficiency and its light weight package makes this new generation of Li-ion battery suitable for all telecom sites and environments. This 48 V unit has been specially designed to offer full and universal compatibility - no matter whether the equipment is inside or outside, on-grid or off-grid, in a very hot or extremely cold location or at a remote or hard to access installation. A number of different application scenarios and specific advantages of this new generation Li-ion will be demonstrated. This paper will conclude by explaining how this product provides a compact, low weight, low TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), high service life, zero maintenance, smart communication and environmentally friendly materials in a single package.
