  • Abstract
    The texture-based approach of vector field visualization has been widely applied due to its excellent performance in revealing the general view as well as the detail features. In this paper, on the basis of the Classic Line Integral Convolution(LIC) algorithm, a new texture approach of vector field visualization based on field driven strength is proposed to solve the problem of decreased contrast and deficient regional color gradual change of the existing color enhancement methods. The algorithm procedure: firstly, combine the field strength information with the white noise to obtain a new input texture; secondly, apply the LIC computation to get the gray output texture; thirdly, obtain the color enhancement texture through statistical nonlinear color mapping. The experiment proves that the proposed algorism outperforms previous methods in depicting regional gradual change, with higher visual contrast and more distinctive detail rendering. The study has effectively improved the vector field visualization expression.
