Abstract
Recent progress in the development and operation of the XUV free electron lasers (FELs) will be presented. The prospects of the extension of FEL´s operation into the X-ray range will be discussed. In this paper, status of UV/VUV FELs will be presented. The prospects of the extension of FEL´s operation into the X-ray range will be discussed. Different approaches for achievement of VUV and X-ray ranges will be discussed and compared
