  • Abstract
In this paper we present an alternative power supply evaluation model to determine the optimal type of power supply from a sustainable development perspective. The analytic hierarchy process is applied to decide the priority of different types of power supply. The results of the study indicate the gap between goals of sustainable development and current power supply structure in terms of energy security and environmental degradation. The results of our model suggest that the share of renewable energy installed capacity should be increased to achieve the overall goal. And the policy to boost the development of nuclear power generation should also be put in place as soon as possible. This study is particularly basing on the specific economical cost of power plants, environmental cost of emissions and the overall status of energy security in Guangdong Province.
