Abstract
A steam cycle in which regenerative heating extends beyond the liquid range is here called superregenerative. Two ways to increase the degree of regeneration in the Rankine cycle are examined theoretically. The first proposal for superregeneration, published by J.F. Field in the 1940s, is shown not to be suitable for application. The authors propose a more promising approach consisting of a double-stage regeneration, i.e. heat transfer to two different flows from the same steam extraction . Numerical studies of this concept with combined reheating and feedwater preheating are reported
