Abstract
Stochastic analysis of water hammer is greatly needed in hydropower structural reliability design. However, the effect of friction on stochastic analysis of transient flow has been often neglected in previous studies. In this study, a random model of water hammer considering unsteady friction was introduced and moment characteristic method was proposed for numerical calculation. A computational example shows that the maximum piezometric head of unsteady friction model agrees with that of steady friction model. Furthermore, the unsteady friction model fits better with respect to the simulation of the fluctuation process of water hammer.
