Abstract
Fixed wireless access (FWA), also known as radio in the local loop (RLL) or wireless in the local loop (WLL), is an application of radio technology experiencing tremendous growth, especially in developing economies. Low-tier (low power microcell) FWA systems, based on low-power PCS air interfaces, are well-suited to urban areas where the capacity limits the cell size to microcells, and also to small isolated villages. The paper discusses the benefits of simple, mature, low-tier, microcell radio technology, such as CT2 for this application. The results of traffic capacity simulations and typical link budgets, range calculations and tests are included
