Abstract :
Designing the digital MMDS network involves an analysis of current trends in the fixed access wireless system marketplace and their impact on MMDS, as well as the technological considerations with which an operator is faced when deciding upon a system architecture. This paper addresses some of the issues necessary from both the operator standpoint as well as subscriber considerations. Advantages of terrestrial wireless fixed access are discussed. A comparative analysis is made of the benefits as well as the drawbacks of MMDS as compared to higher frequency systems. When considering delivering digital cable TV, wireless Internet, and other interactive services, system design methods for the evolution of MMDS to offer two-way services, including link budgets, must be addressed. Drawing upon experience from digital MMDS networks currently in operation, coverage areas, modulation and transmitter power options are outlined for operator consideration
