Abstract
According to the undertakings in the Kyoto protocol of december 1997, the EU is committed to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions in the 2008-12 period to a level that is 8% below that of 1990. Greece´s commitment to the European community is to restrict in 2010 the emissions to the +25% level in comparison to 1990. This paper reviews the potential of current measures and initiatives to limit greenhouse gas emissions in Greece according to the Kyoto protocol but also the additional required commitments towards the Kyoto´s targets.
