  • Abstract
The Marine Minerals Research Centers Program was established by an act of the US Congress in 1996. The act authorized CMRET´s at the universities of Mississippi, Hawaii, and Alaska. The Mississippi center specializes in the Gulf of Mexico and other continental shelf regions of the United States; the Hawaii center focuses on the deep seabed and the nearshore environs of tropical islands; and the Alaska center concentrates on the Arctic Sea region. The CMRET program is managed by the Minerals Management Service, US Department of the Interior
