Abstract
We propose a new family of broadband external modulators with ultra-high linearity (SFDR = 147 dB Hz) for analog photonic links applications. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest reported SFDR for any single design of linearized external modulators. Other remarkable features include high tolerance to parameter fluctuations, low loss, simple architecture, and low cost. The modulator is based on a unique combination of phase-modulator (PM) and ring resonator (RR) that are placed within a standard Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) configuration. Simulated results showing these excellent features are presented.
