Abstract
Flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) provide new solution in expanding the power transmission capacity of existing transmission lines. Among the FACTS devices, the unified power flow controller (UPFC) can provide the control of the transmission line impedance, phase angle and reactive power. Due to this versatility, UPFC becomes a prime FACTS device. UPFC generally provide the control functions to improve the power system stability. However, improper operation of UPFC can deteriorate the system stability. In order to prevent this undesirable operation, suitable operating schemes and well-trained operators are required. This paper presents a UPFC simulation program for operator education. Proposed simulator provides the user friendly man machine interface and the flexible data monitoring methods to improve the educational effect of the simulator.
