  • Abstract
Mathematical modeling of liquid crystal (LC) devices is demonstrated through LC directors´ reorientation and electro-optical modeling. For director distribution simulation, 3-D finite difference and finite element methods have been developed. In optical simulation, a new derivation of extended Jones matrix is given. Besides, research has demonstrated that the evolutionary algorithms (EA) can yield robust globally optimized solutions. Application examples using the modeling and optimization methods to design LCDs will also be presented.
