Abstract
The authors have constructed a workstation-based system to train nuclear power plant operators in the proper execution of emergency operating procedures (EOPs). This emergency operating procedure support system (EOP-SS) consists of three interacting modules: (1) an EOP modeler that captures the reasoning associated with the correct execution of one or many EOPs; (2) a hypermedia-based intelligent tutor that imparts mental models of the technical bases underlying the EOPs; and (3) a PC-based simulation of the power plant that generates various emergency scenarios. The entire system is data-driven and directly available to the users through direct manipulation graphical user interfaces. The system provides training for very complex procedural tasks that is far richer and more robust than that provided by currently available modes
