Abstract
The effects of the electromagnetic properties of soil, such as permittivity and permeability as a function of frequency, on the performance of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is presented, both in time and frequency domains. The incident wave is assumed to be the Gaussian pulse, which is then transformed to frequency-domain by means of the Fourier Transform. Using the frequency dependent parameters of the soil and different polarizations for the incident wave, the transmitted wave to ground and the reflected signal from its surface are obtained in frequency domain, and then transformed back to the time domain. The method is rigorous in the seuse that no approximation is made in the simulation, and better results are obtained in comparison with the available data from other researchers. The choice of the incident wave polarization for some applications is also discussed.
