Abstract :
This paper describes the design requirements for a QAM demodulator chip developed to be part of a set top convertor for digital cable television. The chip demodulates 64- and 256-QAM signal at a maximum bit rate of 44 Mb/s and uses blind acquisition techniques so that no training or pilot signal need be sent by the transmitter
