Abstract
In this paper, a stochastic probability model based on the fractal theory for estimating lightning shielding performance of UHV transmission lines is introduced. This model takes both the deterministic factors and stochastic factors of the lightning process into consideration. Some parameters related to the model are discussed according to features of lightning process and adjusted by comparison with field data. The probability of lightning strike under certain lightning current intensity is obtained through substantial repeated calculation.
