Abstract
Vehicular Ad-hoc Network has become an active area of research which provides mobile communication among vehicles on road. It has tremendous potential to improve passenger safety on road, traffic efficiency, convenience as well as comfort for both drivers and passengers. It also delivers several other applications such as internet connectivity, smart parking, passengers could share music, videos, and so on and chat with each other and play games during long journey. Recent research efforts have found that vehicles share life saving information so it is essential to have a secure environment for VANET communication. Thus we present a review of all the security and authentication mechanisms available so far and various routing protocols for secure and efficient VANET communication respectively.
