Abstract :
The design activity of electromagnetic (EM) devices is an evolutionary process which has to integrate past design experience; new technologies and computational techniques. In order to optimize the design process, we have developed a creative design system for EM devices based on case-based reasoning (CBR), an approach to solving new problems by reusing and, if necessary, adapting retrieved solutions to similar problems. The practical significance of this system is validated through the derivation of a novel design prototype from a real-world induction motor case-base with high dimensionality.
