Abstract :
A crucible induction furnace is modeling with a coupled magneto-thermal formulation using the finite element method. For high frequencies, eddy-currents can appear as currents flowing at the core surface as well as between the laminates in the core. The calculation of eddy current loss requires a very dense mesh in the conductor regions. To avoid the problem with the dense mesh, this paper uses a complex permeability model. This model allows to study of inter-laminar currents and its effect on iron losses.
