Abstract :
There are three models of Dielectric barrier discharge under atmospheric pressure, and a simple, effective diagnostic method to distinguish the discharge mode is urgently brought forward. Based on dielectric barrier electrodes, glow, pseudoglow homogeneous discharges under an 11.8 kHz voltage in helium at atmospheric pressure and filamentary discharges in air were investigated by measurements of discharge current and Lissajous figure. For a glow or a pseudoglow homogeneous discharge with one or multiple current pulses per one half cycle of the applied voltage, respectively, the Lissajous figure is a parallelogram with smooth steps, and the number of steps is equal to the number of the current pulses per one half cycle of the applied voltage. While for a filamentary discharge the Lissajous figure is a regular parallelogram.
