Abstract :
The developments in low wattage HID lamps from the 1960s to date are outlined with reference to scientific advances and commercial aspects. Particular emphasis is placed an the progress of the design and performance of lamps with ceramic arctubes over the past 30 years. The evolution of metal halide discharge lamps with ceramic arctubes from 1980 to 2000 is described in detail
