Abstract :
In the past two decades, the development of the FACTS technology has produced high power forced-commutated converters of high reliability and control flexibility. These developments have now permeated the DC transmission area with the acceptance of the HVDC Light technology and new converter concepts are continually being proposed. This paper provides a critical overview of the state of the art of large power high voltage conversion with reference to potential applications in the power transmission and distribution areas
