Abstract :
Methods for the automatic generation of transparent standard cells are presented. A heuristic algorithm for transistor chaining is developed and implemented. Through the use of transparent cells, exclusive routing channels can be avoided and the over cell area can also be used as routing area. The routing algorithms implemented in the CAD tool take advantage of this new possibility. The presented algorithms are combined in TRANSCAD II, a CAD tool based on the concept of transparent standard cells. This tool allows comfortable design of compact cells with high transparency. A cell library is designed using CMOS technology with two metal layers
