  • Abstract
Application of adaptive array antenna (AAA) technology in ad hoc networks still causes a lot of discussion in the network community. Even if AAA is seen as a solution for interference avoidance, wrong implementation of AAA in ad hoc networks can lead to a general deterioration of network performance. Forward interference avoidance (FIA) concept has been proposed as one solution to this problem. The FIA concept allows to foresee, before the start of transmission, if a communication, intended by a node in an ad hoc network, will be successful and if this node could interfere with other communications. It does so by evaluating traffic demands by using two threshold values. In this paper, we explain how to estimate the two threshold values as they are vital to its correct functioning. We show how the values may be chosen depending on network requirements by using a cumulative distribution function CDF and proof its correctness by optimizing with linear programming.
