Abstract
This paper describes a development of drive unit for 2-motor driven electric vehicle (EV). The drive unit is consisted with a traction controller, an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM), a reduction gear and an inverter for an electric vehicle that is driven by 2 motors without differential gear. For the drive unit, a traction controller, IPMSM and inverter have been developed. To verify that the drive unit has advanced dynamic characteristics, higher efficiency and higher power density than a drive unit adapted with an induction motor with the same specification, the authors show results of the design and experiments of the drive unit
