Abstract
The paper introduces DEMO, a novel user interface development system in which all parts of an interface are developed through direct demonstration, thereby allowing nonprogrammers to take a primary role in the interface development process. Such an environment, where no programming in the conventional sense is necessary, is unrealistic for general program development, but is attainable in the more limited domain of user interface development. The DEMO system is based on a role-playing methodology called stimulus-response demonstration. Under this methodology, the developer draws the interface using a graphical drawing editor, and then, using the same drawing editor, specifies the interactive behavior of the interface
