Abstract :
State estimation is the important basis of power system operating control. To reconcile the conflict between measurement speediness and decision-making slowness and then achieve timely and effective control, it is an advisable choice to carry on a period-oriented overall network state analysis with a cycle of some minutes. This paper proposes the concept of period-oriented state estimation, which provides state vectors of characteristic time sections within a period of time. It is considered that the characteristic time sections can basically characterize the operating status of power system within a period. The mathematical model of the period-oriented SE is built, and a numerical example is analyzed, which proves the information provided by period-oriented SE all-around and pivotal. In operating control, period-oriented SE has a practical potentiality as the basis of stable-state operating status assessment and decision-making
