Abstract :
While the overhead of directional RTS packets can degrade wireless ad-hoc network throughput, it has rarely been studied before. This effect is clearly seen in the existing directional MAC schemes. In this paper we propose a scheme that uses nodes´ location information to transmit few directional RTS (DRTS) overhead packets to intended receiver, as the number of beam sectors (M) increase. This technique reduces significant number of DRTS overhead packets, plus enhances aggregate throughput of wireless ad-hoc networks. The proposed scheme uses Omni CTS (OCTS) to avoid collision and hidden terminal problems. Simulation results show that MAC protocols that possess few DRTS overhead packets have higher throughput than those that possess large DRTS overhead Packets.
